Copenhagen is supposed to be the place where leaders of the world must be sorting out the differences and must agree on common program which can be followed by all.
There are many conflicting views from scientific community and no scientist is in situation to accept or deny the facts of so-called global warming. Why I call it so-called global warming because scientists did not confirm so far that glaciers are melting because of rise in temperature. Rise in temperature may be the result of natural cycles as well. The devastating global warming may not be the result of human activities. Many experts argue that human contribution to environmental problems may be sizeable but it is not very higher side.
Ok, back to Copenhagen, Many countries are trying to use the environmental issues for political agenda as well. Developed countries do not want to do enough. Many developing countries are being forced to accept the conditions and the framework which is not suitable to their own development. India and China are two rising economies and the world reality is that, these two countries can not ignored. America or Eu may be worried because of china’s rise on economic horizon. But the use of environmental issues and carbon emission levels are bad excuse to reduce the economic growth of a particular country.
Another “FARCE” is carbon credit. Carbon credit policies may allow developed countries to do nothing. And the historical facts show that empirical mindset and the post WWII and soviet era policies are still ruling the world. A poor country is given the money to shut down some of its industries so that it can contribute to the account of developed nation. Poor countries will be denied any major industrial shift because they have been outsourced as the sellers of carbon credit. The environmental issues are hot debated topics these days. The new economic war is not about the markets, it has shifted to arm-twisting the nations who are week and poor.
Leading nations still need to decide their own contribution. Carbon Credit policy must be abolished for ever. A country must not be allowed to avoid its obligations of cutting the emissions to agreed levels.
The summit has just started and it is highly unlikely that the world leaders would agree to follow something. It is bad and big political world. The mature leaders need to find out the durable solutions here. I will update the blog with more news and commentary on COP15 Summit 2009. You can visit COP15 2009
